Saint-Quay-Portrieux, a charming seaside resort

Saint-Quay-Portrieux is a chic, family-friendly seaside resort situated between two main thoroughfares: Le Portrieux, with its old port from which boats once set sail for the Icelandic fishing grounds, and Saint-Quay, home to the town centre, church, shops and casino. The history of Saint-Quay-Portrieux goes back to cod fishing in Newfoundland and the first dip in the sea. The sixth largest fishing port in France for scallops, Saint-Quay-Portrieux was also the first seaside resort in the early 19ᵉ century, which saw the birth of the casino, the Art Deco villas of the Corlouer brothers and the Arletty cinema.

The beaches

  • La plage de la Comtesse: a fine sandy beach facing the Ile de la Comtesse, which can be visited at low tide. Ideal for families, it has a paddling pool and a diving raft for children's enjoyment. With a view over the Port d'Armor (a deep-water port), you can admire the sailing boats entering to protect themselves in the dyke. At high tide, the colour of the sand varies from white to black (black ilmenite crystals). This sandy beach is bordered by the GR34, the famous white "Delpierre" barriers and the yellow and blue benches.
